Excel Mite Academy
Excel Mite Academy is a program where players 7 years and under can lay the foundation for a successful hockey Journey!!! There is a new initiative in America to grow hockey, so the Hockey Hut Training Center has designed the ultimate program for young players and families.The governing body of hockey in America (USA Hockey) has researched and studied hockey development and has recommended an all “cross-ice” (Small Games) approach to skill building.The Hockey Hut, operational since 1997 has been running small area skills sessions for all ages and has seen the development of the area’s finest players for over 27 years.The small area concept works when the drill progressions are fun, fast and instructed by professionals. This is what we will provide for your skater with the addition of “Team” practice development and game concepts!!!
Head Coaches:
Ron Kuhl In 1993 Ron started coaching hockey in the Capital Region NY. He has spent the last 26 years coaching, instructing and developing players at every age level from youth to pro.
From 1995-97 Ron worked to create the foundation of his player development and skills programs. In 1997 Ron founded Excel Hockey Inc. and became an owner of the Hockey Hut Training Center. This allowed him to train players throughout the entire year.
Cameron Kuhl, known as Cam, hails from Clifton Park, NY, and currently serves as the General Manager and Head On-Ice Instructor at the Hockey Hut for the 2024-25 season. With a rich background in hockey, Cam brings a wealth of experience to his role.
His journey in hockey began with two years in the USPHL Premier League from 2014 to 2016, where he established himself as a reliable shutdown defenseman. Following that, Cam showcased his talents in the BCHL, donning the jersey of the Alberni Valley Bulldogs for the 2016-2017 season. Then in his final season he finished his Jr. days at the NJ titans. His tenacity and defensive prowess caught the eye of scouts and coaches alike.
Transitioning to collegiate hockey, Cam continued to excel on the ice. He spent three impactful years at SUNY Plattsburgh, where his defensive skills became the cornerstone of the team’s D zone. Continuing his collegiate career, Cam concluded his playing days at Liberty University, further solidifying his reputation as a dependable defenseman.
Now, as the General Manager and Head On-Ice Instructor at the Hockey Hut, Cam leverages his extensive background to mentor and develop aspiring hockey players. His experience as a shutdown defenseman gives him a unique perspective on the game, allowing him to impart invaluable defensive strategies and techniques to the next generation of players.
To love the game
There needs to be reasons. In the Excel Mite Academy program, it is our mission to make sure kids love the game and have fun while advancing their skills. Every practice will be small team skill sessions and instructed by our professional staff with the help of a volunteer assistant coach. Puck touches, skating techniques and small games will be employed to keep things fresh and fun!!! We will encourage future coaches to help on ice but the program is designed by Hockey Hut Owner Ron Kuhl and instructed by the Hockey Hut full time professional staff. The maximum player/coach ratio will be 6:1.
We want the kids on the ice and having fun!!! This will grow the love of the sport and allow them to take their game to new levels!!! The environment we will create will bring that love and passion for the game out!!! The more they love the game, the more they’ll play. And the more they play, the better they’ll get.”
