Derek Barach

Our Hockey Hut Hall of Famer this month is Derek Barash, who plays Division 1  hockey for Mercyhurst University. Derek is currently playing for the Texas Stars in the AHL. Derek told us that one of the biggest reasons he was able to get to where he is today is because of his parents’ sacrifices. “It was paying for new equipment, driving me to practices, paying for training, and the overall support for my goals and dreams”. Another big factor was his work ethic, due to his size he has always had to break the stigma that because smaller hockey players are not going to be as successful against guys who are 6 feet tall. He has always worked twice as hard to prove himself. For Derek, the Hockey Hut was a great place to train and work on his skills. “ It was great to be able to work on my skills in a smaller setting which then translated onto the bigger ice whether it was edge work, shooting, or puck control.”

Ron says, “Derek Barach is one of the most committed and passionate hockey players, he just loves to play the game. He approaches the game with humility and is always seeking to improve his skills. Always a joy to be around and work with here at the Hockey Hut. He had a tremendous college carrier and is now doing great things in his professional career. Derek is always welcome here at the Hut when he is back in town!”

We congratulate Derek on all of his achievements! We are glad to have been a small part of his journey!
